August Inkspired Tour

Bienvenidos and Welcome to the August issue of the Inkspired Tour.  Did you see the creations of my friend, Martha Gomez, on her site, Stamp Art Papel on the previous stop of the tour?

Be sure to look at the other blog tour stops from across the country and Puerto Rico, just click the button at the bottom of this post to go to the next blog.

I hope you enjoy my projects:

Owl Card
My first project to share with you this month is this Owl card (I’m sorry for the poor picture quality).

I love this punch, which is quite versatile.  Besides this cuter than cute owl, the punch can also be used to make a penguin, a tulip, and  much more.Owl card

 Amanda’s Stamp Pad Tips:

Owl card close up~The background texture is created using the Vintage Wallpaper Embossing Folder.

~The owl was punched once in each color:  Cherry cobbler, Old Olive and Very Vanilla.  Use the leftovers to create two more owls.

~Save Paper:  Punch the owl out of the center of the Cherry Cobbler Card Stock that is layered behind the Newsprint Designer Series Paper.

Amanda’s Stamp Pad Tips:
~This adorable little bear’s clothes were created using the new In-Colors, Concord Crush, Blushing Bride and Pear Pizzazz.

~Do you see the cupcake on her card?  I used a marker to ink a single cupcake from the Crazy for Cupcakes stamp set for the perfectly sized card.

 Thank You Hydrangea

This card is inspired by a card I received in a swap by my friend and fellow demonstrator, Abby Biringer

Amanda’s Stamp Pad Tips:
~Notice the stencil in the background—it is the vintage stencil and Crumb Cake classic ink.

~A great color combination is using the new colors Marina Mist, Early Espresso and Crumb Cake.

Next up on the blog tour is Marcia Santiago and Stampin’ With Marcia where you will find a really cute 2-4-6-8 box, a great card and festive scrapbook page.

Hasta Luega, Amanda.

STAMPIN' UP! COLORS RETIRING ON JULY 1:
You might want to stock up on your favorite colors that are retiring this June.
If you use any of these colors a lot I would suggest a fresh Classic Re-Inker to keep that ink pad going for years to come and a pack or two of card stock in your favorite size. The products will be available as normal through May 31.  Then from June 1- June 30, the colors will only be available while supplies last!

The Summer Sun cardstock and ink used on this card will be retiring.

This card uses the retiring color Summer Sun for the card base and on the flower.  The Designer series paper is Pink Flamingo and the technique used on the flower is “rock and roll”.

Sparkly Birthday card / Tarjeta de Cumpleanos Brillante

DSCN5177

I made this card for my Mother-in-Law’s birthday (so, since she hasn’t seen it yet—Happy Birthday, Sarita!).  I love the sparkles that the shimmer paint adds to the sentiment and the flower edges.

DSCN5179

The flower was easy to make using the scallop edge circle punch.

  1. Punch out five scallop circles.
  2. Spray each of them with water.
  3. Crinkle up each scallop.
  4. Unfold them and layer them one on top of the other.
  5. Punch in the center with the Crop-a-dile and place a brad through all five layers.
  6. Starting with the top layer, scrunch each layer back up (the top layer is scrunched tightly, then the others are a little looser).
  7. When all layers are scrunched (that’s the technical term, right?), unfold them and finesse them to get the look you want.
  8. Let the flower dry, then adhere to project.

I also added shimmer paint to the flower petals for a little extra shine.

DSCN5144
My Techniques Club met this weekend and we had a lot of fun creating these two cards and Easter Basket.

The technique this month was Poppin’ Pastels that worked perfectly with the Medallion stamp on this Easter Wishes card. The Easter basket was created using the Big Shot and four envelopes die-cut with the Scallop Envelope Stampin' Up! Bigz Die.

Amanda’s Stamp Pad Tips:

  • Use the center of your paper that is covered with another layer: the Easter eggs on the basket were punched out of the center of the Designer Series paper from the Easter wishes card.
  • Wide Oval Punch + Designer Series Paper = beautifully decorated Easter eggs.
  • Use the Scallop Trim Border to create a frilly handle for the basket (this punch is a free Sale-a-Bration item—hurry Sale-a-Bration is over March 31).
The other card we made at club was this QUICK & EASY birthday card.

The stamp set is from the Sale-a-Bration set named Happy Moments (actually I used the Spanish set Momentos Felices).

DSCN5140The colors for this card are all from the In-Color Collection and I used Razzleberry Lemonade Designer Series Paper to determined my color pallet. From there I chose Melon Mambo textured cardstock for the base of the card (I just love the textured cardstock, it adds such dimension to the card), with Rich Razzleberry and Crushed Curry layered on top. Then I used the In-Color Stampin’ Write Markers to color in the presents.

Birthday Cards / Tarjetas de Cumpleanos

DSCN4954

DSCN4954Birthday Card for a Child / Tarjeta de Cumpleaños para un Niño

Amanda’s Stamp Pad Tips:

  • To create the waves, I used an oval punch turned at an angle. See this post for more info…
  • To add foam to the waves and to the whale's blow water, I put a thin layer of crystal effects down, then topped with micro-beads.

Birthday Card for a Man / Tarjeta de Cumpleaños para un Hombre

Amanda’s Stamp Pad Tips:

  • Use colors to make a card masculine. The colors on this card are from this year’s In-Colors, and the combination of these three are very masculine.
  • If you have a simple layout, use textured cardstock to add a little something extra.
  • Use geometric shapes to create a masculine card.

Pantone Announces Color of the Year for 2010

bermuda bay frame Pantone, the global authority on color (yep, there really is a color authority), has announced that TURQUOISE is the 2010 color of the year and describes it as an inviting, luminous hue. This is what they wrote in their press release:

Combining the serene qualities of blue and the invigorating aspects of green, Turquoise evokes thoughts of soothing, tropical waters and a languorous, effective escape from the everyday troubles of the world, while at the same time restoring our sense of wellbeing. Read more from Pantone’s press release here. . .

Each year Stampin’ Up! has a collection of colors that follow the upcoming trends, called the In-Color collection. The Bermuda Bay from this year’s In-Color collection fits perfectly with Pantone’s Color of the Year—Turquoise. Notice how beautiful the ribbon below is with the white polka-dots. Plus only one side has the polka-dots and the other side is a solid color,so you have two-ribbons in one.

bermuda bay ribbon I am currently offering a Ribbon Share in which you can receive 18 yards of ribbon for $16.50. This includes 3 yards each of the six different colors from the In-Color Polka-Dot ribbon.

New Catalog Sneak Peek

The new Idea Book and Catalog will be available on July 1, and I wanted to share some photos of new products from the catalog.  I received my pre-order stamp set and the new In-Colors on Friday, along with my demonstrator copy of the new catalog—which is GORGEOUS.

New In-Colors and stamp setThe textured cardstock, MARKERS (Woo Hoo!)and “Animal Stories” stamp set arrived just in time for me to make swaps for the unit meeting on Sunday.  The new In-Colors are (in order from top to bottom) are Rich Razzleberry, Bermuda Bay, Melon Mambo, Crushed Curry, Dusty Durango and Soft Suede.

The unit meeting is my chance to get together with my favorite demonstrators--the L-Inked Together group--to stamp, swap cards, and talk Stampin’ Up!.  Some of the other demonstrators made their swaps with the new catalog stamps and colors, too.  Although, I can't show you the entire catalog I can show you some of the sneak peek products I received along with the swaps that I received Sunday:

DSCN4414 This is the card that I made to swap.  I used Crushed Curry textured cardstock as the main background with strips of Melon Mambo, Bermuda Bay, and Rich Razzleberry cardstock.  I then stamped the Bali-looking flower from the “It’s a Beautiful Thing” set using the Melon Mambo marker to ink it.  For the Elephant image I created a suede-look on the whisper white square to give it texture.  I then used the Melon Mambo and Rich Razzleberry markers and the Kissing technique to stamp the elephant image from the “Animal Stories” set.    If you’d like to learn how to create the suede-look or use the kissing technique, schedule a workshop and I’ll show you and your friends.

DSCN4407

Stacy Cross created this cute 4”x4” card.  She used some of the new In-Colors as well as the new Modern Label Punch, and Razzleberry Lemonade DSP.

 DSCN4408

Mandy Grant designed this next card.  She used a great color combination of Bermuda Bay, Soft Suede and Whisper white.  The stamp set on the bottom half is a set from the new catalog, “Circle Circus”.

 DSCN4409

Abby Biringer created this card with the “Circle Circus” stamp set and new In-Colors.  She did a really neat closure on the card, underneath the scallop punch a tab enters the card to hold it closed.

DSCN4410

The last card using new products was made by Lisa Vale.  What a beautiful color combination the Crushed Curry and Whisper White make!  She also used the new Razzleberry Lemonade DSP, and our great new Polka Dot 1/2" Grosgrain Ribbon also in Crushed Curry.

I have to say I love the new catalog! I have 37 items on my wish list if that tells you anything. Of course I won't be paying for all of that. I will try to earn as much free as I can. Ask me how you can, too!

The new catalog is available on July 1! If you’d like your own copy, call me or email me and I’ll order one for you.  Remember, you can get a FREE IDEA BOOK & CATALOG by placing a $150 or more order, hosting a workshop or joining the stamp club.

Although I am super excited about the new catalog, I am still sad to see some of our current In-Colors and Last Chance products leaving us. We still have a few more days to purchase stamps and accessories from our current catalog. Also, if you still have not reserved your spot for the June class be sure to do that as well.  You can sign up in the upper right corner of my blog.
